The first stage of the long-awaited new Sewerage Scheme for Milltown is to finally go to tender.

Independent Councillor Seán Canney has announced the pipe network for the scheme will go to tender next Thursday.

Work is expected to begin early in the New Year and it's expected the County Council will then move to put the actual Treatment Plant out to tender.

Last May the Minister for the Environment Phil Hogan granted 2.8 million euro for the Claregalway and Milltown Sewerage Schemes.

Cllr Canney says the new sewerage scheme will set Milltown up for development into the future.
