MICHAEL D HIGGINS WIDENS LEAD IN GALWAY

Michael D Higgins is increasing his lead over rival candidate Sean Gallagher in Galway West where tallies show he stands at 61%.

Sean Gallagher continues to slip further in Galway West at just 14%.

He is followed by Sinn Fein's Martin McGuiness at 10%.

Claregalway resident Dana is trailing in Galway West at 3%.

The majority of boxes opened for tallies so far are from the East side of the city.

In the Galway East count centre.

Michael D. has widened his lead by around 3 percent in the last hour.

He now has 43% of the vote ahead of his nearest rival Sean Gallagher who is on 30%.

NATIONALLYWith three hours of counting now complete in the race for the Aras, tallies suggest Michael D Higgins will finish the first count with a commanding lead over Seán Gallagher.
