MICHAEL D HIGGINS STILL FAVOURITE FOR PRESIDENCY

With just weeks to go until the Presidential election, a new opinion poll shows Galway Labour candidate Michael D Higgins is still favourite to become the next President of Ireland.

According to a survey in today's Sunday Independent, 32 per cent of people backed Michael D Higgins for the Aras.

This is followed by David Norris at 19 per cent and Mary Davis in third place on 18 percent.

However, the poll was taken before the entry of Martin McGuinness - who will be ratified as Sinn Fein's candidate later today.
