MEETING TO DISCUSS SERVICES AT PORTIUNCULA HOSPITAL

Trade Unions are to meet with Galway TDs and Senators this week to discuss the future of services at Portiuncula Hospital.

There are fears for the status of the Ballinasloe facility following this week's announcement that it's to be grouped with others in the region.

Under the new arrangement, Portiuncula Hospital will be grouped with University Hospital Galway, Merlin Park Hospital and Roscommon County hospital.

A delegation from IMPACT, SIPTU and the INMO nurses union hope to discuss the facility with local government TDs in the Dail this Thursday [Dec 15].

Speaking to Galway Bay fm news, Padraig Mulligan of IMPACT says smaller hospitals could lose out to GUH in the new budget sharing arrangement.
