MAN STILL DETAINED FOLLOWING ROSSAVEAL ASSAULT

A 22 year old man is still being questioned at Mill Street garda station in connection with a serious assault at Rossaveal pier at the weekend.

A young man suffered serious head injuries following the incident which took place between 3 and 4 am yesterday(Feb 3) where up to 100 people, believed to be rally followers had gathered.

He is now being treated in Beaumount Hospital where he underwent surgery last night.

A 22 year old man was arrested at 6.30 last evening and detained at Mill Street Garda Station under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act.

He has since had his period of detention extended and can be held for up to 24 hours.
