Magdalene group ends political campaign

The survivor advocacy group, which helped fight for an apology for women who were forced into Magdalene laundries, including the Galway city one, is ending its political campaign.

Justice for Magdalenes began its campaign in June 2009 with two objectives.

It wanted to bring about an official apology to the Magdalene women from the Irish State and set up a compensation scheme.

The voluntary group says it has achieved these goals and will now withdraw from the political arena.
