Local authorities seeking additional emergency accommodation for homeless in Galway

Galway City Council and Galway County Council are looking for commercial proposals detailing nightly and weekly room rates from private operators
Galway’s local authorities are seeking additional bed-and-breakfasts, guesthouses, and self-contained units to provide emergency accommodation for homeless individuals and families from the start of next year.
In tender documents published on Monday, Galway City Council and Galway County Council are looking for commercial proposals detailing nightly and weekly room rates from private operators.
The properties are required from January 1 to ensure sufficient capacity in response to presenting need, with contracts for service to be funded by the Department of Housing, Planning and Local Government.
Participating accommodation operators will be required to provide 24-hour staffing for access control and supervision, weekly laundering of bedding and towels, and rooms fitted with child window locks.
Staff will be required to complete extensive training programmes, including modules on psychological trauma, adult safeguarding, domestic abuse, and a suicide-prevention course titled ‘Let’s Talk About Suicide’, according to the tender documents.
Social care support for residents will be delivered alongside local homeless organisations. Prospective contractors have until Friday, November 6 to submit proposals, which will be evaluated on value for money, facility quality, planning compliance, and fire certification.
