Gardaí in Galway were continuing to question a woman in her 30s yesterday in relation to the fatal stabbing of a man at an apartment complex in Salthill on Sunday night.

The woman was arrested at the scene following the discovery of the body on the rooftop balcony of an apartment complex at Quincentennial Drive, near the back of Galway Atlantiquaria, at about 10.35pm.

She was taken to Mill Street Garda Station, where she was still being questioned under the provisions of Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act 1984 yesterday.

A post mortem was carried out at University Hospital Galway (UHG) yesterday afternoon on the body of the man, who was believed to be in his 50s and a native of Co Galway.

Gardaí were called to the scene shortly after 10.30pm on Sunday night, where they found the man in a collapsed state on a balcony. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

The area, between the back of The Office Bar and Seapoint, remained sealed off yesterday afternoon while forensic specialists from the Garda Technical Bureau continued to carry out examinations at the scene.

The services of the Deputy State Pathologist were requested and a full post mortem was due to be completed at UHG yesterday afternoon.
