Irish Human Rights Commission makes demands on the state for Magdalene survivors
Galway Bay fm newsroom - The Irish Human Rights Commission says the State failed in its obligation to protect the human rights of girls and women in the Magdalene laundries, one of which was located at Forster Street in Galway city.
It's calling for a redress scheme that provides individual compensation for every woman who lived in Magdalene institutions.
The IHRC has published its follow-up report on state involvement in the Magdalene laundries.
It's also recommending that the State provides rehabilitation services to help the women deal with the psychological effects of the time spent in the laundries.
