The IFA says a strategy must be implemented to deal with Shannon flooding which is impacting on East Galway farmers.

President of the Irish Farmers Association, John Bryan met with Minister for the Office of Public Works Brian Hayes.

He claims the current system, which dates back to the 1970s, is outdated and needs to be changed urgently to address the concerns of farmers whose land is often submerged in water.

Farms in the vicinity of the River Suck including Clonfert, Portumna and Ahascragh have been seriously affected in the past by rising water levels.

John Bryan says dropping the water levels would be an effective solution
