Galway Bay fm newsroom – One of Connemara's best known business and social locations is to be re-opened under new ownership this coming weekend. It has been confirmed that Peacock's of Maam Cross has been bought by the Burke family of Clonbur and the pub and restaurant will open their doors again on Saturday. Peacocks is where the roads cross in all directions at Maam Cross. The Peacock family owned the business in the past and then Michael Keogh and his family from Oughterard were the owners between the late 1970ies and into the new Century. From a small pub it became a Hotel, opened by then Taoiseach, Bertie Ahern in May, 2000. But the business world was changing. Now, after periods in Receivership…Peacocks is on the road again. It has been confirmed that the Burke family from Clonbur are signing the purchase documents which makes them the new owners at Maam Cross. Eóin Burke already runs the Livestock Mart close to the Hotel. The Pub and Restaurant will open up first – this coming weekend – and the Craft Shop is in readiness. It is hoped that the shop and filling station will follow.
