From this week's Galway City Tribune - The HSE is due to seek planning permission for a new ‘Integrated Care Hub’ in Knocknacarra in the coming weeks, with the objective of starting works in the first part of 2024.

It was confirmed at a meeting of Regional Health Forum West, in response to a question from Cllr John Connolly (FF), that plans for the facility at the former Aviva Insurance building off the Western Distributor Road are to be “progressed shortly” to Galway City Council for approval.

Chief Officer of Community Healthcare West, Breda Crehan-Roche, said the hub would accommodate community specialist teams for chronic diseases, the integrated care programme for older people and West Galway Community Health Network.

In addition, the Galway West Business Park building would house Salthill and Knocknacarra Primary Care teams and a diagnostics unit for chronic diseases.

“The proposed floor plan has been agreed, detailed surveys have been carried out on the building and we are currently working on an accelerated design process,” said Ms Crehan-Roche.

Cllr Connolly said this unit would enhance community healthcare and, as a result, reduce the need to attend an acute hospital for certain treatments.
