Health insurers owe €13.6m to Galway City hospitals

Private health insurance companies owe €13.6 million to the two Galway public hospitals, UHG and Merlin Park.

One consultant has not signed off on paperwork which would bring in €291,460 in payments from the insurance companies. John Hennessy, Regional Director of Operations for HSE West, said that legislation was on the way which would change the way hospitals bill health insurance companies and ultimately a system will be introduced that will eliminate delays caused by consultants not signing off on paperwork.

Health Forum West Chairman Cllr Padraig Conneely has consistenly slammed the consultants for tardiness in completing their paperwork.
