GORT SIEGE TRIAL HEARS GARDA MARKSMAN SHOT ACCUSED

A sniper rifle was used by a specially trained Garda marksman to shoot a Gort man in the shoulder when he emerged from a house armed with a loaded shotgun, following a 21-hour siege in the town three years ago.The third day of the trial of Anthony Burke of 67 Crowe Street, Gort, heard evidence from a member of the Garda Emergency Reponse Unit, who could only be identified as “Officer K” for security reasons, that a Garda marksman, armed with a sniper rifle shot and wounded Mr. Burke from an upstairs bedroom at No. 47 Crowe Street, directly from Mr. Burke’s house.
