GOLFER TO CHALLENGE CITY COUNCIL PLANNING DECISION

Well known golfer Christy O’Connor junior is taking a High Court challenge over a refusal to extend planning permission for homes in Salthill.

The Irish Independent reports the world cup and ryder cup golfer secured leave at the High Court to challenge the council's decision yesterday.

Last October, the city council refused to extend the normal five-year duration of a permission granted by An Bord Pleanála in 2008 for the one-acre site at Knocknacarra.

The case is expected to come before the courts again in January.
