Galway's two mayors are leading the calls for a good turnout at this evening's welcome home for the hurling team at Pearse Stadium in Salthill at 7

The team was defeated by champions Kilkenny with a final score of 3.22 to Galway's 3.11

Mayor of Galway Terry O'Flaherty and Mayor of County Galway Tom Welby both attended the banquet with the team in the Burlington Hotel last night

This afternoon they are urging the people of Galway to turn out in force to support the hurlers

Garda Supt at Salthill Noel Kelly is co-ordinating the homecoming civic reception which is hosted by Galway city council

While he's urging people to walk to the Salthill venue or use public transport he's warning motorists who do bring their cars to use the off street parking properly

Supt Kelly says the turnstiles will open at Pearse Stadium at 4.30 with the team expected at 7pm

And a reminder that from 4.30pm Galway Bay fm will bring you live updates on the progress of the team's journey from Dublin and from Pearse Stadium
