GALWAY WEST TD EXPECTS SWIFT DECISION ON ARAN AIR SERVICE

A Galway West TD says he's hopeful of a speedy decision from the EU on a proposalto extend the PSO contract for the air service to the Aran Islands for another year.

The current four year contract with Aer Arann will expire at the end of August.

It's worth over 6 million euro, and provides for 3 daily return flights to Inis Mor, 2 daily return flights to Inis Meain and to Inis Oirr on weekdays, with four return flights on weekends

The Department of Arts, Heritage and the Gaeltacht submitted the request to the EU yesterday which is necessary under competition rules.
