Galway teenager's friends raise over €6,000 to support him during treatment

Over 6k has been raised to support Eoin Ryan from Dunmore, who was diagnosed with cancer in August
A GoFundMe launched to raise funds to support a 16 year old Galway teenager who was diagnosed with cancer earlier this year has already raised over double it’s target of €3,000.
Eoin Ryan, from Dunmore, was diagnosed with cancer in August 2026 and has faced a very challenging few months of medical appointments, treatment and time away from school and his friends.
Thankfully, Eoin is doing well, and his family and friends are now hoping to help ease some of the financial pressure associated with his treatment and recovery.
The family and friends behind the GoFundMe said, “thankfully Eoin is doing well land his family and friends are now hoping to help ease some of the financial pressure associated with his treatment and recovery.”
The campaign, ‘Westport Sea to Summit’, has already raised over €6,000 with 155 donations so far.
As part of the fundraising effort, Eoin’s family and friends, Evan, Chloe, Alice and Darren have decided to take on the Westport Sea to Summit challenge, taking place this Saturday, November 7.
The group hopes the fundraiser will help Eoin and his family with some of the unexpected costs that can come with cancer treatment, including travel to and from appointments, medical expenses and other day to day costs.
The funds will also help support Eoin’s return to education, including expenses and grinds, as he hopes to rejoin his Leaving Certificate class at Dunmore Secondary School in January.
The GoFundMe organisers said their biggest wish is to see Eoin return to the things he enjoys, including school and playing sport with his friends.
“We want to continue to surround him and his family with as much support as possible during this challenging time,” the GoFundMe says.
The group said the money raised will allow Eoin and his family to focus on “what matters most: his health, recovery and spending time together”.
Any additional proceeds from the fundraiser will be donated to a charity of Eoin’s choice.
The organisers have thanked everyone who has donated so far, saying that every contribution, regardless of size, means a great deal to Eoin and his family.
They have also appealed to those who cannot donate to share the GoFundMe to help spread the word. You can visit the GoFundMe by clicking here.
