Students from Galway's third level colleges are to join in a demonstration outside Clare County Council offices in Ennis this afternoon.

It's over a decision by the local authority to consider withholding grants from students who haven't paid the household charge.

The Council has sent letters to third level grant applicants asking them to submit proof that they've paid the charge.

Education Minister Ruairí Quinn says the actions of the council are reasonable.

Students from NUI Galway, GMIT, Limerick IT and the Univeristy of Limerick are to hold a demonstration at 2.30 this afternoon in protest at the action.
