The Galway sea scouts will be formally presented with a 90 year old boat this bank holiday weekend.

The boat was originally built as a row boat, but 75 years ago, was transformed into a hooker boat by Reaney's of the Spanish Arch on the site of the new museum.

Some years ago, Nicky Dolan from the Claddagh bought the gleoiteog and restored it.

City Councillor Niall McNelis with the support of Galway business owners and the Dolan family have now come together to hand the boat over to the sea scouts.

It was agreed the boat should be called 'the loveen', the name the late Nicky Dolan would have wanted.

A reception will be held this Sunday in the House Hotel with the official naming and blessing at Long Walk after.

Speaking on Galway Talks, Breandan Dalton of the Galway Sea Scouts said they were delighted to be given the boat
