Five Galway retailers are among the members of the Retail Excellence Ireland Committee which has launched a new Town and City Management Framework.

The initiative which has the support of six thousand retail stores nationwide aims to revitalise towns and cities.

It sets out to implement a plan to re-engage customers with measures such as the establishment of town teams and the provision of rent and rates controlled space.

The framework also proposes the introduction of an empty property scheme to rent long-term vacant units.

The Galway based committee members include local retailers Anthony Ryan of Ryans and Homestore, Paul Faller of Faller Jewellers, Steve Gamble of Brown Thomas, Colm Sorenson of Butlers Chocolates and Mark Bundschu of Bookfinders.
