Galway Racecourse driving charge

A man has appeared in court charged with careless driving causing serious harm to another man at Galway Racecourse.
John Hugh Smith (73), with an address at Drummin, Ballyturn, Gort, appeared at Galway District Court accused of an offence contrary to section 52 of the Road Traffic Act.
It is alleged that on July 2, 2023 at Galway Racecourse, Ballybrit, he drove without due care or attention, causing serious bodily harm to another man.
The court heard that a charge of dangerous driving against the accused was being withdrawn by the State.
Judge Fiona Lydon directed that all statements be provided to defence solicitor, Catherine Tolan, and adjourned the case to May 27.
