A senior Garda has launched a scathing attack on Third level students who are wasting Garda resources with their night-time rampages. Superintendent Tom Curley has said the violence and anti-social behaviour carried out by students in the past four weeks has been the worst ever recorded. He's told councillors and community representatives at today's city joint policing committee that Monday, Wednesday and Thursday nights are the worst, with third level students going on the rampage. The most recent Garda figures reveal a 21 per cent drop of minor assaults but a 5 per cent rise in more serious assaults causing harm. Cllrs are now calling for student representatives to be appointed to each area of the city to liaise with the Gardai. Superintendent Curley says the number of burlaries are on the rise while Gardai are busy preventing all-out riots among the students.
