Households located within flood-risk areas across Galway are to receive a concession in their property tax bill.

The admission by Revenue was made under questioning at the Public Accounts Committee this week.

Homeowners whose properties have been flooded in the past or at risk of flooding in the future can include this submission when making their self-assessed tax return for the property tax.

Minister of State and Galway East TD Ciaran Cannon says inability to gain insurance for a home in many Galway flood risk areas will massively influence the valuation of a property and should now be taken into account.
