Galway holidaymaker’s body found after taking solo Canary Island holiday

Gary Johnston had booked a return ticket but concerns were raised when he did not board the flight and had been out of contact
The body of a Galway holidaymaker has been found nine days after he did not board his return flight home from a solo Canary Island holiday.
Gary Johnston, who local Spanish media say was living in Galway, flew from Dublin to the island on October 1 for a solo holiday of walking and camping.
The 52-year-old was last heard from on October 3 and was due to return home on a flight to Dublin on October 7 but he did not board this.
This raised alerts and led to National Police and Guardia Civil becoming involved searching parts of Fuerteventura where Gary may have been camping.
Sadly, the Missing Persons Ireland Helpline has confirmed that he has been found dead.
They said in a statement: “We have just received news that Gary Johnston who was missing in Fuerteventura, has been found deceased.
“Our thanks to all who shared to contacts in the Canaries. Condolences to Gary's family and friends on their sad loss.”
