GALWAY COUNCILLOR AGAINST PROTEST LETTER TO ENVIRONMENT MINISTER

Date Published: 26-Jul-2012
Fine Gael Cllr Bridie Willers is not supporting councillors who are opposed to the household charge and are today set to issue the Minister with a document rejecting cuts to both city and county councils.
The group believes non payment of the household charge does not account for major cut to council budgets.
Following notification issued last week by Minister Hogan, Galway County Council will have to deal with cuts of up to 3 million euro, while Galway City Council is facing a cut of almost 500 thousand euro.
Minister Hogan will be presented with the letter at the Environment Department in the next half hour.
Cllr Willers says there's a clear and understandable connection between non collection of the household tax and a reduction in council budgets.
