Galway city shop not allowed hang GAA bunting ahead of All Ireland Final

If you are wondering why you are not seeing much colour in the city ahead of the game
A Galway city shop has confirmed that they are not allowed hang GAA bunting ahead of the All Ireland Final clash.
Galway will face Limerick on Sunday for Liam MacCarthy but you wouldn’t think that by the lack of maroon and white around the city.
Some streets are not allowed put this up as the Arts Festival is putting on an acrobatic display which the bunting would get in the way of.
One of these streets is William Street, where O’Brien’s newsagents is, who broke the sad news to their customers this weekend.
They said: “Unfortunately, we won’t be able to hang Galway maroon and white bunting on William Street for the All Ireland Final because it coincides with the annual Galway Arts Festival Parade.
“This year’s parade is an acrobatic display which would be compromised by the bunting. Anyway, good luck to the Galway hurlers against Limerick. Bring it home.”
Meanwhile, Galway City Council is delighted to announce that a free, public big‑screen showing of the All‑Ireland Hurling Final — Galway vs. Limerick — will take place in the Heineken Big Top as part of the Galway International Arts Festival.
This special event brings together two of Galway’s greatest passions: Hurling and the Arts. The Heineken Big Top — one of Ireland’s most iconic festival venues — will transform into a vibrant gathering place for supporters, families, and visitors. This is more than a match screening; it is a cultural moment shaped by Galway’s artistic spirit.
In a city where creativity thrives and sporting pride runs deep; this unique screening celebrates hurling as a truly European cultural moment — at an International Arts Festival event in an international city. International visitors participating in Ireland’s EU Presidency programme will be afforded the opportunity to experience this game as part of the festival’s official offering.
Tickets will be available free of charge from Monday 13 July at 11:00am via GIAF.ie.
This big‑screen event is designed to be family‑friendly, accessible, and free, ensuring that the entire community can come together to support Galway’s hurlers on one of the biggest days of the sporting calendar.
The screening adds to the dynamic programme of the Galway International Arts Festival, reinforcing Galway’s reputation as a city that embraces creativity in all its forms — from world‑class performances to memorable sporting moments.
Mayor of the City of Galway, Cllr Helen Ogbu, welcomed the announcement, saying:
“Galway is a city shaped by sport, culture, and community. Hosting a free big‑screen viewing of the All‑Ireland Final in the Heineken Big Top during Galway International Arts Festival brings these elements together in a straightforward way. It’s a chance for supporters, families, and visitors to come together in a cultural setting to share the occasion and celebrate our maroon spirit. Gaillimh Abú!”
