Covid-19 test results due later today on person from NUI Galway

Results of testing for Coronavirus are due later today from a person who was triaged on campus at NUI Galway yesterday (Monday).
According to university authorities, the person presented to the Student Health Unit yesterday afternoon and was “referred onwards to the HSE following initial triage”.
In an email notice to all students, Professor Michelle Millar, Dean of Students said: “The appropriate tests have been carried out and the HSE should have the results later today. The advice to the University was to deep clean a small area on campus, which has been carried out.
“The university was further advised that closure of buildings was not appropriate or required at this time. We will continue to inform our university community as best we can in line with public and patient safety and confidentiality.”
She added that there are currently no confirmed cases of Covid-19 on the campus and all services are running as normal.
“You may be aware of inaccurate messages on social media and other channels overnight stating that a confirmed case of Covid-19 had been detected in the university. These messages are not accurate,” said Prof Millar.
“If necessary, students should consult, by phone only, with the Student Health Unit. Members of staff should consult, by phone only, with their own General Practitioner. We will keep the university community updated HERE as this situation evolves over the coming days and weeks. This will be the reliable source of factual information relating to our campus,” she said.
