Back to the drawing board for Gaelcarrig Park housing proposal

Galway City Tribune - The backer of plans for nearly 70 new homes on a site between Gaelcarrig Park and Carn Ard in the Westside has been sent back to the drawing board to make extensive revisions to the proposals.
Galway City Council has also told the developer to increase the number of homes in the plans, because it is a serviced residentially-zoned site.
McHugh Property Holdings applied for permission in July to construct 68 homes in two separate schemes on a 4.5-acre site at Gaelcarrig.
However, the City Council said there is a dominance of terraced units and told the applicants to revise the proposals to include other types of conventional homes, for example semi-detached units.
The Council also ordered that revisions be made to increase the density/unit provision per hectare and demonstrate the rationale for it.
The local authority pointed out that the proposals do not maximise the use of “good southern and western orientations”, and ordered revisions for communal open spaces and private open spaces and rear gardens, as well as the internal layouts of the homes.
