Young mother buys €330,000 Galway city home for €50
‘You just dream about things like this’
The lives of a young family living in Galway have changed forever after their mother bought a Galway city house in Woodquay worth €330,000 for just €50.
Jacqueline O’Gorman’s name was picked out as winner of the Win A Home in Galway City competition in Keane’s Bar and Restaurant in Oranmore.
Clare native Jacqueline and her husband Richard Kiely from Limerick have been living in Galway for the last 20 years and currently live in Oranmore where the draw was held.
Their two boys Sam, 8 and George, 5 are hurling mad and even play for Oranmore Maree - whom the draw benefited raising over €1.5 million for the club.
Jacqueline, who works in Medtronic and is also a University of Galway Alumni, said the last time she won anything was in an Easter raffle in primary school.
She said: “I still can’t comprehend it. I never thought I was going to win it when we bought tickets through the club. You just dream about things like this.
“I’ve been living in Galway for over 20 years and we love Oranmore. My two boys now have somewhere to stay if they go to college in years to come.
Sean Greene, Chairperson of the Oranmore Maree GAA One Club added to the congratulations saying: “A very special moment yesterday as we handed over the keys to the home in Woodquay, Galway city, to winner Jacqueline O’Gorman and her beautiful family. You can read more about their big win and watch the draw back on our website. Thank you to everyone for all of your incredible support.”
He continued: “I just want to thank everybody who supported us and bought tickets since we launched our campaign in early May.”
“The response locally, nationally and around the world has just been fantastic. By the end of this year, we will have invested over €6m in the development of our state-of-the-art facilities in Renville Gaelic Grounds and this brilliant fundraiser will be a vitally important contribution to the success of the project.”
