Galway bus eireann drivers picket bus depot

Around 20 Bus Eireann drivers are picketing outside the bus depot at the docks in the city this morning.

It's part of a nationwide day of protest, by members of the National Bus and Rail Workers Union over 5 million euro worth of cuts in their overtime and premium payments.

There are currently no Bus Eireann services operating out of Galway city, and there is no information on its website regarding today's Galway routes.

Over 100 Galway Bus Eireann drivers, or 70 percent of the drivers, are affiliated with the NBRU. General secretary of the NBRU, Michael Faherty says the union will not accept the cost cutting recommendation.

Bus Eireann is advising all intending passengers to check the company's website -www.buseireann.ie - for the latest information.

The company says it will lose 200-thousand euro for every day that the strike continues.

Spokesperson for Bus Eireann Andrew McLindon says this industrial action is putting jobs and the future viability of the company at risk
