FUNDING WITHDRAWN FOR N17 TRAFFIC CALMING MEASURES

Date Published: 21-Sep-2012
The National Roads Authority has withdrawn around 200 thousand euro in funding for road safety measures at a village on the N17.The design for the works at Milltown is already complete and the part 8 approval had been expected to conclude next month. No reason has been given for the decision and there is no indication as to whether funds will be available for the works in the future. The plans included traffic islands at either side of the village, lighting, a pedestrian crossing at the church and footpaths.Road safety in the area has been an ongoing issue over the past number of years with high traffic flow through the villiage on a daily basis.Councillor Sean Canney says he will raise the issue at the next council meeting with a view to pressurising the National Road Authority to reverse the decision.
