There's good news for Galway, Clifden and the Aran Islands RNLI lifeboat with the announcement that the Government is to maintain existing funding levels for the service.

Minister for Transport, Leo Varadkar says the annual grant of 150 thousand euro for the RNLI nationally will be maintained.

This is in addition to the €4.37million the Coast Guard service will receive.

2011 was one of the busiest years for the Coast Guard since its foundation, responding to nearly 2 thousand incidents.

Just last week, Galway RNLI lifeboat rescued two men whose fishing boat broke down and starting sinking in Galway Bay.
