Funding the repairs of an historic city footbridge will be discussed at a meeting of the Natural Environment and Waterways Committee tomorrow.

The footbridge leading to the Fisheries Tower at Wolfe tone bridge is hanging, which has prevented access to the building since 2007.

Up to six applications for funding have been submitted by Galway City Council to Failte Ireland for its construction.

It's hoped the application will come before the Fáilte Ireland board meeting for decision this month [Nov].

Speaking to Galway Bay FM, City Councillor Catherine Connolly who is Chair of the Committee says she is hopeful progress can finally be made after many false starts.
