Fundraising efforts for the city's Art House Cinema to fill a shortfall of 1 point 1 million euro in the project are "progressing well".

That's according to the Solas Picture Palace project managers who have sought funding through a US trip in October and continue efforts on a national and local level.

At a local level, most recent efforts involve the proceeds of a special screening of Martin McDonagh's ‘Seven Psychopaths’ at the Town Hall Theatre today (Mon Dec 3).

JJ Rhatigan, began work on the long-awaited project in March this year, after the original contractor pulled out.

City Council contributed the 1.8 million euro site as part of initial agreed plans and the draw-down schedule of government funding of 2.1 million euro has since been agreed.

Tracey Geraghty of the Solas project team says the excavation of the basement is now complete and the project is advancing well
