FULL CAPACITY PROTOCOL AT UHG

Date Published: 27-Oct-2011
Full capacity protocol has been implemented at University Hospital Galway again today [27/10] as overcrowding reaches saturation point.
There are 47 patients waiting on trolleys to be admitted to the city hospital this afternoon.
Many patients will be moved to wards, where they will remain on trolleys, as there is no space left in casualty.
Over a hundred beds, which could be used to reduce the overcrowding remain closed at UHG and Merlin Park Hospital because of budget constraints.
Industrial Relations Officer with the Irish Nurses and Midwives Organisation, Gavan Duffy says it's almost impossible to provide adequate care.
