Contemporary folk duo Ivan Murray & Anna Falkenau, with their band, make a long awaited return to The Crane Bar this Sunday, December 11.

The Murray & Falkenau Band features Mark McConville on bass and Ciaran Kelly on drums, and very special guest Lena Ullman on five-string clawhammer banjo.

The band played a mighty, jam-packed gig in the Sea Road venue in May this year to celebrate the launch of their debut album, The Leipzig Sessions. Touring and promoting the album over the summer, Murray & Falkenau have received much critical acclaim, with Irish Music Magazine praising them for bringing “the strange and wonderful to what is often a tired and jaded genre”.

Anna Falkenau’s fluid fiddle playing sees her infuse her love for Irish traditional music with an imaginative spark, creating something vital and new. There is a definite sense of craftsmanship about how her playing and Ivan Murray’s voice combine.

“Originally, I grew up with classical music,” says Anna. “Then I got into trad stuff in Scotland and I met a load of people playing Irish music.” Catch Murray & Falkenau at their home base before they head off to tour in Germany.

Doors are at 8pm, Admission is €8.
