FILE FOR DPP AFTER FLARE INCIDENT IN CITY

Date Published: 24-Feb-2012

A file is to be sent to the DPP after a flare was lit outside a take away in Eyre Square in the early hours of Thursday.

A man in his early 20s was arrested following the incident at Supermacs, where up to 100 people were gathered.

The footage of the incident has been posted on YouTube, and shows people chanting and dancing outside Supermacs where the flare was lit.

Further footage posted on the internet shows rowdy scenes inside the restaurant where a member of staff looks visibly distressed.

Galway Gardaí say several arrests for public order offences were also made last night.

An unofficial rag week, called 'social week' began on Sunday night in the city.
