Almost 1,400 farmers across Galway and Mayo are still waiting for their GLAS funding to arrive – nearly three months after payments were due.

That’s according to local Deputy Éamon Ó Cuív who claimed that Agriculture Minister Michael Creed was leaving small farmers in the lurch by failing to ensure speedy payment.

The latest figures – supplied to Deputy Ó Cuív on foot of a parliamentary question – revealed that 737 farmers in Galway and a further 639 in Mayo have still not received their GLAS payments for 2016.

And that combined Galway/Mayo figures amounts to twnety per cent of the national total, he added.
