Kids go free as Mountbellew looks forward to celebration of their 109th Annual Show

THE newly re-vamped Mountbellew Agricultural Show will be held in the Agricultural College grounds in the town on Saturday week next, September 14. At a well attended launch held in the show grounds, details were announced of several new projects that have been added to the show schedule for the first time ever in an effort to attract a much wider spectator base.
Frank Collevy, Show Chairman, said it was an exciting time for the agricultural show now in its 109th year. “This spring in our step comes directly from the massive public meeting which was held in Mountbellew a few months ago to save the show after a number of inclement weather years forced cancellations which created a financial headache for the show committee.
“We have introduced the concept of a food and craft hall, headlined as ‘A Taste of the West’ in which local butchers, bakers and food caterers will not alone showcase their outstanding products, but will encourage the public to taste their food on site. The massive new leisure complex adjoining the show grounds has been graciously made available for the occasion,” Frank said.
Another new innovation is the coming together of popular local Miland’s Garden Centre and well-known Galway Bay fm contributor Ann McKeown with a wide range of floral issues to be discussed and a question and answer session to follow.
For the first time in many years cattle classes have been introduced and local Limousin breeder Tom Finnerty, owner of the very successful Bovinion Limousin herd has organised a fine exhibition of Limousin and Charolais cattle.
