Estimated two hour wait to tax car at county council HQ

Galway Bay fm newsroom - People queuing for the motor tax office in the city and Ballinasloe are facing lengthy delays as the deadline looms for declaring a vehicle off the road.

Two Gardaí are at the County Council building at Prospect Hill in the city to stamp the necessary forms and help speed up the process.

The queue at the city centre motor tax office is out the door of the building and up the footpath towards Bohermore.

In Ballinasloe, the queue at the motor tax office is back as far as the church.

From tomorrow, anyone who wants to declare a vehicle off the road, must do so IN ADVANCE of the period of non-usage.

Director of Finance with the County Council, Ger Mullarkey says people have just until 3.30 to join the queue.

People waiting to go into the tax office told Galway Bay fm news they just have to accept the delays.

Junior Minister and Galway East T.D, Ciaran Cannon says some people may not even need to be in the queue at the tax office this afternoon.
