Residents in the Claregalway area say they will continue to block the ESB's plan to keep a mast in its current location.

This week county planners gave permission for the retention of a 36 metre mast at Rooaunmore despite widescale opposition to the plans.

The mast is located in a residential area, and is being objected to because of its location and possible risks to health.

There are also concerns the mast does not comply with the county development plan.

A spokesperson for the local action committee says they will appeal the planning permission to An Bord Pleanala.

County councillor Jim Cuddy says residents have no choice but to oppose the plans.
