The Environmental Protection Agency is urging Galway County council to install a temporary waste water treatment plant in Clifden to improve the quality of effluent being discharged into the sea. It comes as Clifden beach failed to pass basic European bathing water standards for the third year in a row.The Clifden Waste water treatment plant is being cited as the most significant source of contamination. The beach at Na Forbacha was also deemed unsafe to swim in.The presence of traces of human or animal waste material were found in both beaches last year.
