Dublin outfit Blind Yackety for Musical Mayhem in the Crane

Date Published: 07-Mar-2013
The monthly Musical Mayhem series return to The Crane Bar this Friday, March 8.
Run by Galway’s foot-stomping finest, Mikey & The Scallywags, it’s an event that brings some serious talent to the Sea Road venue. Previous Mayhems have featured Limerick’s Brad Pitt Light Orchestra and the sublime David Dondero, one of America’s great unsung songwriters.
This month’s Musical Mayhem brings Dublin outfit Blind Yackety to town. The lively performances from this eccentric music collective have wowed crowds from the Salty Dog stage at the Electric Picnic to the Grand Social, Dublin.
Blind Yackety is a constantly evolving eight-piece band, incorporating many influences, from 1950s lounge pop to psychedelic Arabic soul music, to Ennio Morricone’s film scores. Their sound is spun with multi-layered vocal harmonies, tropical rhythms and spidery guitar.
After a busy year of gigs and festivals in Ireland and the UK, Blind Yackety released their debut album, Fences and Furnaces, last November in Whelan’s.
Musical Mayhem is curated by Mikey & The Scallywags, who never fail to put on an uplifting, ridiculously fun show. The band released their debut EP last year and are currently working on a full-length album.
The evening will also feature a set from Donal McConnon of Galway band My Fellow Sponges.
Doors are 9pm, and admission is €5. The advice is to get there early, as the Musical Mayhem nights are always packed.
