DUBLIN CONSULTANT OBSTETRITCIAN SPEAKS OUT ON HSE INQUIRY TEAM

A consultant obstetrician in Dublin says the appointment of Galway doctors on the HSE inquiry team into Savitta Halapannavar's death puts them in a difficult position.
Gerry Rafferty made the comments after her husband raised concerns about the make up of the HSE team that will investigate the circumstances of her death.
Praveen Halappanavar told the Irish Times today that three doctors from University Hospital Galway should be removed from the panel.
Those involved include Proffesor John J Morrison, a consultant in obstetrics and gynaecology; Dr Catherine Fleming, consultant in infectious diseases; and Dr Brian Harte, consultant in anaesthesia and intensive care at the hospital.
However, the chairman of the group has said it's important to have representatives of the hospital on his team so they can compare guidelines.
Consultant obstetrician at Mount Carmel Hospital Gerry Rafferty believes the three Galway doctors should be witnesses to the case giving evidence rather than taking it.
