DRAFT REPORT CLAIMS SAVITA INFECTION UNDIAGNOSED FOR THREE DAYS

Date Published: 13-Feb-2013
The infection that contributed to the death of Savita Halappanaavar went undiagnosed for three days at Galway University Hospital, according to a draft report into her death.
The report, published in today's Evening Herald, also shows that staff at the hospital should have considered a termination for Savita days before her death.
The report, which has been seen by The Evening Herald, details a litany of medical failures - including a lack of clarity among key staff about who was responsible for acting on blood tests which showed a possible infection on the day Savita was admitted to hospital.
It adds that by the time Savita was admitted to hospital, it was already too late to save her baby.
Communications Minister Pat Rabbitte says the report appears to support the government's moves to legislate for the X-case.
