Deputy O Cuiv defends his prison representations
Galway Bay fm newsroom - Deputy Eamon O'Cuiv says his representations regarding moving a Galway drug dealer, jailed for manslaughter, from one prison to another were “proportionate” in the circumstances. The Galway TD had made representations to the prison service regarding a request by the prisioner in 2012 to be moved from a high security jail to the more open surrounds of Shelton Abbey prison. The Galway man was jailed for the manslaughter of an associate and Deputy O Cuiv said the representations were made towards the end of the man's sentence. He says the prision services and the state should be trying to put conditions in place towards the end of sentences to help reintegrate people back into society with the minimum danger of them re-offending.
