Officials from the Department of Heritage are to visit raised boglands in East Galway where turf cutting is currently banned.

It follows a meeting this afternoon between Minister for Heritage Jimmy Deenihan and the Cloonmoylan and Barroughter Bogs Action Group.

The group is opposed to the ban and is calling on the Minister to dedesignate the boglands from their current category as special areas of conservation.
