DANA CLAIMS US CITIZENSHIP IS AN ADVANTAGE

Independent Presidential candidate and Claregalway resident Dana says she never mentioned she became a US citizen prior to the 1997 presidential election because she 'didn't think it would be a problem'.

People becoming naturalised US citizens take an oath renouncing their allegiance to all other states.

However Ms Scallon says she cannot remember taking this oath - and points out that she has dual citizenship.

Dana thinks it would actually be an advantage for the incoming President to have close ties to the US.
