Judge Fiona Lydon said it was ‘quite incredible’ that the accused could appear in court on so many charge sheets

A 26-year-old man accused of a number of public order offences has been told he must stay out of parts of Galway City centre.

Albert O'Riordan, of no fixed abode, appeared at Galway District Court on five charges relating to alleged incidents in Galway on September 20.

After the case was called, Judge Fiona Lydon said it was "quite incredible" that the accused could appear in court on so many charge sheets.

Sergeant Damien Prendergast said there was no objection to bail subject to the accused abiding by conditions.

Judge Lydon said it should also be made a condition that the accused engage fully with counselling and access programmes offered by the Simon Community.

Albert O'Riordan was also told he must stay out of Shop Street, High Street and Eyre Square and adhere to the advice of his GP.

Judge Lydon told the accused that any breach of the conditions could result in an application to the court to revoke bail.

O'Riordan is charged with intoxication and breach of the peace of the peace offences contrary to section 4 and section 6 of the Public Order Act, at High Street and Eyre Square on September 20.

He is also charged with criminal damage at the Garda North Western Regional Headquarters in Murrough, also on September 20,

That charge alleges he intentionally urinated on a cell door.

He is also charged that on January 28, 2026 at Upper Newcastle, he was in possession of cocaine contrary to section 3 of the Misuse of Drugs Act.

Sgt Prendergast said the value of alleged drugs is €200 and Judge Lydon accepted jurisdiction to hear the case in district court.
